Taking Action…“You can do more than pray after you have prayed; but you can never do more than pray until you have prayed” - A.J. Gordon
All students, both Middle School and High School alike, share a common cry of desperation in their every day lives. A cry that needs an encouraging shoulder to lean on in the struggles, and one that needs a friend to experience the joys of life through celebration. But take a closer look at the two - what do they have that is similar? The answer, humbly being SEEN by their peers! Throughout the summer and through the course of the 2011/2012 school year, the Revolution Community would like to fill this void in its students through a unique form of involvement, one that continues outside the two or three hours received each Sunday.
1. PRAYER Before taking action, we always need to remind ourselves and re-attribute our trust in God, for He is who will guide and inspire us in developing this student community. Our first plan of action will involve our individual efforts of dividing up and praying over every grade – allowing personal connections to all ages.
2. RELATIONSHIPS
God’s calling of action was made simple in his greatest commandment – to love. Our second calling is to discover our strengths and targeting the students we find in prayer and discussion, and then letting them be seen by you.Friendships are meaningless if they aren’t life changing. Help give THIS community a meaning.
3. COLLABORATION
What is a way to both combine and solidify these two ideas into a routine for next year? Through the success of the Prayer Triplets Program in the entire church we have decided to do a youth-run series in the Fall that will incorporate all grades. In addition, we will be forming an official Youth prayer team outside of Instigate.
WORDING WORDS
There is an overarching necessity that generally receives the most miscomprehension – this being WORDS. In all aspects of a Christianity, whether weare going before God, ministering to our peers, or building up with fellow disciples, we always must use our words to develop ideas, goals, and dreams. But notice the flaw in my last statement, “OUR words.” Something we must begin to recognize is that nothing comes to us without first going through God. One of Paul’s greatest verses comes from Romans 8:26 saying, “the spirit helps us in ourweakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.” Too often doyoung people allow themselves to fear prayer or speaking on behalf of their faith because they feel inarticulate and a lack of passion, but when you let the Holy Spirit work through you and trust Him, everything you do will bring about that much more glory to the Kingdom of God.
The Larger Perspective
From the outside looking in, what does this group signify and what do we plan on getting out of it? Let’s first break down the name “Righting the
Wrongs”.
At the beginning of life, we are each born with the burden of original sin, a weight that we must carry until we allow Jesus to intercede on our behalf. Unfortunately, before that point is reached, our lives are sin-filled, they are “Wrong.” This is not meant to discourage us, but is meant for us to realize that there is something more to be found in life and that it is completely attainable. A hope that overcomes all earthly struggles.
Finding Jesus in a person’s life is a choice that an individual must make on their own. It’s a decision – jumping in, staying in, all in. There is no sitting on the fence, no “maybe’s” or “but’s”. The truth is blatantly straight-forward; there is a “Right” way to live life which is through God, and there is a “Wrong” way to live life which is through anything and everything else. Hence, we get our name, “Righting the Wrongs”.
Now looking towards the future, we must discover what every student needs when they take their first steps into the real world. They each need STRENGTH to handle the many difficulties thrown at them, MOTIVATION to continue in the path God wants them to follow in, and a PROSPERITY of life in the Spirit.
In summation, this group is designed to and WILL change lives, is designed to and WILL bring this youth community closer together, and is designed to and WILL bring glory to God and His Mighty Kingdom. This group has one rule which is to follow the instructions that God leaves for us, no matter the depths it takes us or the extremities He so chooses to challenge us with. Now, it’s time for us to go out and make disciples throughout the nations, leading this world to the return of its Savior and all of eternity!
“One day an old man dropped his favorite antique piece of pottery and it was completely shattered. Later that day he took it in to the blacksmith to see if he could weld it back together. A week later, the man returned to find his piece put back together with golden trimming and more beautiful than before. We all may start out content with life, but eventually our “good enough” mentality breaks us down and we need God to make us new again.” – Bill Beagle
